BEST PRACTICES

B3 film has a mild ionic charge and attracts dust and particulates

  • Maintain a clean work environment. This includes cleaning the dosimeter holder and work table area.

  • Proactively clean the B3 film surface prior to measurement. This will reduce the risk of the presence of particulates on the film, including any paper dust from the dosimeter.

Some particulates from the dosimeter paper frame are to be expected on B3 Dosimeter Product. Paper is a fibrous material. GEX has a rigorous cleaning process during manufacturing, but we cannot guarantee the total removal of all paper particulates.

  • If you see visible particulates on the film surface, simply clean dosimeter film prior to measurement.

CAUTIONS & WARNINGS

Use the B3 product as calibrated

  • Follow the same process used during the dosimeter batch calibration during routine usage of B3 dosimeters. Changes and deviations from the established process will cause variations and unaccounted uncertainties to measurement results.

Follow storage instructions to maintain product quality. See Storage.

Do not remove the product from the original packaging unless necessary for your application. Remove the dosimeter from the package only after post-irradiation heat treatment.

  • Irradiate the product in the original protective pouch to protect the film from exposure to UV light and the effects of relative humidity, if possible.  Do not remove the product from the pouch unless necessary for your application. Do not remove the product from the original protective pouch until you are ready to use the product.

  • This will mitigate most environmental influences due to UV light and relative humidity and provide consistent measurement results.

Always Protect B3 film from UV light.

  • Do not expose the B3 film to UV light sources at any point in time. Even after heat treatment, B3 film will respond to UV light and the color of the film will darken.

Proactively clean the B3 film surface. See Handling B3 Dosimeters.

warning WARNING! Do not press, dent or damage B3 film immediately after heat treatment. The heat treatment process makes the film soft when the user first removes the dosimeter from the incubator. The soft film is more susceptible to damage, such as fingerprints and indentations from rough handling. Handle with care.

warning WARNING! Do not use any type of alcohol (such as isopropyl alcohol) or alcohol-based wipes to clean B3 film. Alcohol will destroy the film.

warning WARNING! Do not cut or tear the film. Do not scratch the film surface. Scratches and tears will impact the dosimeter measurement result. See Troubleshooting Dosimeter Measurements for evaluating damaged film.
