B3 Dosimeter Measurement System (Dosimetry System)

1 - About

B3 dosimeters absorbed dose measurements are made using a dosimeter measurement system (also called a ‘dosimetry system’) (per ISO 10012 Measurement Management System, ASTM 52628 Standard Practice for Dosimetry in Radiation Processing).

The ‘B3 dosimetry system’ is a measurement system, and is comprised of B3 dosimeters, a reader to measure the dosimeter’s absorbance value, dosimeter holders to hold the dosimeter in place for measurement, a heat-treatment device (incubator), a method or software to calculate Dose, and the dosimeter measurement system procedures and processes.

ITEM

PURPOSE

DETAILS

Dosimeters

Absorbed dose measurements in ionizing radiation processes

For dose measurements traceable to a national standard, identify and record the dosimeter Batch ID.

Identify and record the individual dosimeter serial number.

Dosimeter holder(s)

Orients dosimeters consistently inside the Reader.

Use GEX dosimeter holders specifically designed for B3 dosimeters and provide consistent, repeatable dosimeter measurements.

Reader

Measures response of dosimeters

Use the spectrophotometers provided by GEX, as part of the GEX DoseControl Dosimetry System.

Use a high-quality flatbed scanner with the RisøScan Dosimetry System

Heat treatment device

Incubator used for the heat treatment of B3 dosimeters after irradiation

Use the incubator devices provided by GEX.

Dosimetry software (optional)

Calculates a dose value from the measured response value captured from the Reader.

Controls the Reader and captures measurement result the dosimeters.

Use GEX DoseControl® software to create and maintain FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant dosimetry records, or other dosimetry software designed for the purpose of calculating dose.

Dosimetry procedures

A dosimetry system is a measurement system and must be implemented, used and maintained to ensure measurement results are accurate and legitimate, per ASTM 52628.

Users must establish dosimetry system procedures prior to using B3 dosimeters. Procedures are specific to the user’s dosimetry application and irradiation process.
