You will need administrator privileges for your computer on your network to install GEX DoseControl software and the associated peripheral drivers, or you will need your IT personnel with admin privileges to install the software for you.
The setup wizard will install GEX DoseControl and the and the associated peripheral USB drivers for the selected spectrophotometer(s) and optional integrated barcode scanner.
Prerequisites

GEX provides users with a DoseControl Software License. If you have purchased an Enterprise License and/or Product Specification Module, your DoseControl License document will include the necessary license keys to install these additional modules.

DoseControl database connection string. Ensure you have the connection string written and ready to copy/paste into DoseControl when prompted.

DoseControl global admin user/password. Ensure you have a password ready to enter into DoseControl when prompted.

Download installer file and remove security block
-
Download the GEX DoseControl installation folder package to your computer

Unzip the folder.

Place the GEX DoseControl.msi installer file onto your desktop.

Remove any security blocks on the GEX DoseControl.msi installer file. Right-click the installer, go to Properties. On the General tab, locate the Security section and tick the ‘Unblock’ checkbox. This removes any Windows security blocks that may occur when you download the installer to your computer.

Run the GEX DoseControl installer

GEX DoseControl setup wizard screen - click ‘Next’ to continue installation or ‘Cancel’ to exit the wizard.

Accept the terms in the License Agreement. Click ‘Next’.

Select the spectrophotometer (Readers) to use with DoseControl. You can select more than one.

You have the option to install the Datalogic USB Driver for the Datalogic Matrix 120 barcode scanner (internal scanner for DoseControl).

To skip this step, click ‘Next’ to continue without installing this driver.

Select “Install Datalogic USB Driver” to install this driver.

Confirm the selected drivers. Click ‘OK’ to proceed.

The GEX DoseControl setup wizard will install the necessary USB drivers for the hardware items for each spectrophotometer. Click accept follow the prompts.

For each hardware driver installed, you may be prompted to ‘allow changes to your Windows device'.

You will see a progress bar and completed task for each item.

The setup wizard will scan your computer for existing drivers. It will update any necessary drivers, as needed.

You will be prompted by Windows to allow the application to make changes to your computer. Click to accept.

If you selected the “Install Datalogic USB Driver” option, you will see a Datalogic USBCOM driver setup wizard. Follow the prompts to install.

When the installation of peripheral drivers is complete, click ‘OK’

Enter Enterprise License Number or Product Specification Module License Number (GEX provides this information with your license agreement). Tick the appropriate box and enter the license number. Click ‘Next’ to continue.

If you do not have either, click ‘Next’ to continue.
-

Accept the default installation destination folder or click ‘Change’ to install in a different folder. Click ‘Next’ to continue.

You will be prompted Windows to ‘allow this app to make changes to this computer’ or asked to login as administrator to complete the installation.

You will see an installation status screen.

Installation is complete. Click ‘Finish’ to close the installer wizard.

Click ‘View Log’ link to generate a log of installation success.
Connect to the application database
-
Double-click on the application shortcut icon “GEX” with the GEX logo that was installed on the desktop. (If the icon does not appear on the desktop, find the .exe file named ‘GEX’ located in the Program Files(x86) folder.)

Next, enter your Master Connection String to connect the software to your SQL Server. The software will show an error indicating that the master connection string is empty. This connection string must be entered before you can proceed to finish the installation.

After you click ‘OK’ on the error message, the Configuration screen will appear.

Enter your connection string into the Master Connection String field. Expand Database Connection and enter a master connection string to connect DoseControl to the application database.

Click “Save Changes” button one time. The software will connect to the database. The progress is shown by orange bar near the top of the screen. If DoseControl is having problems connecting to the database, the orange bar may go back and forth and may take some time before the screen changes.

If the connection string is not correct, an error message will appear to alert the Administrator. If this message appears, you must fix any errors or misinformation in the connection string because something is not correct. Click ‘OK’. Select ‘OK’. Review the string and make any necessary changes. Select ‘Save Changes’ again.

When the string is entered correctly you will be prompted by an info message to restart the application. Select ‘OK’.

Create the Global Admin User Login
The first time you open DoseControl, you will be prompted to setup the Global Administrator Login for DoseControl. Follow the instructions below:

Restart the application by double-clicking the GEX application icon on the desktop.

Select the small text to the right of the orange LOGIN button that says ‘Admin Login’

Enter username “admin” and password “admin” and select ‘LOGIN’.

You will then be prompted to change the Administrator password. There are no requirements for password length or characters. Whatever password you enter will be the DoseControl Global Administrator password.

Type new Global Admin password and confirm new password. Press ‘Login’.

Next, login to the software as the Global Admin using your username “admin” and your new password.

You will be taken to the Home Screen. The software installation is complete. The version number is located in the lower right corner. You can see the Global Admin user is logged in (upper right).
